For his master's thesis, Arne is using Inventor 2017 and needed to scale an STL file, so he could really benefit from the Mesh Enabler. The graphical mesh data is converted into boundary representation (B-Rep Model) data that can be used similar to imported solids and surfaces. After installing the add-in, Inventor users right-click on one or more imported mesh features and convert them into base features (solids, surfaces, or composites) through a new context menu command. The Mesh Enabler converts mesh features to solid base features or surface features and can be applied to individual or multi-selected mesh features or mesh feature folders. I can help a little if you run into problems.The Mesh Enabler is an add-on for Autodesk Inventor. Watch your memory usage the program can be memory intensive. Play with the 'target edges' number, i'm guessing you'll need at least 40k or more. I find that it works best if you do NOT use sharp features option, but you may need to. You'll have to tinker with it, but you can use it to generate really amazing quad meshes. Then you input the PLY file into the Instant Meshes program (it's fantastic btw, ). Make sure and turn off all the options EXCEPT for 'selection only', and 'apply modifiers' Then you output the fully triangulated (manifold hopefully) STL as a. It's not hard once you get the hang of it, unless of course your original STL is really messy. Sometimes you can fix them automatically (the 'make manifold' button), but often you have to manually do things. Use this to find any 'bad' triangles, edges, etc. For Blender you will need to enable the 3D Printing Toolbox. I prefer Blender because it has much more control, but sometimes Meshmixer will do a decent enough job totally automatically.

This is the source file I am specifically working on. I am hoping that someone might have an idea on how I can get these files converted. I am very inexperienced with this and tried to run the heal command and it didn't fix anything. I tried placing the stl into an assembly and shrinkwrapping it but it ends up with the same mesh feature. So I end up with a mesh feature that I can't do anything with. The issue I am running into is that when I run the Mesh Converter add-in for Inventor I get a composite body instead of a solid body. That way I can modify them and create an assembly with them. I am trying to take some STLs and convert them to solid bodies and save them as ipt files. I am using Inventor 2020 and know it best. Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question.
